Collector

We are seeking a Collector to join our growing team. In this role you will be in contact with delinquent members and take appropriate steps to help bring their account or loan to a satisfactory status. The ideal candidate will be able to multi-task, maintain professionalism and confidentiality, and have a passion for helping members who are in difficult financial situations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Contact members who are in delinquent or negative status by phone and mail.
  • Work with our Member Payroll department to schedule and process payments to loans and negative accounts.
  • Analyze delinquent loans and negative accounts on an individual basis and make recommendations to management to repossess or charge off when collection efforts become unsuccessful.
  • Maintain accurate files and reports on all collection activities.
  • Testify at legal proceedings as required and work with attorneys on charged off shares, share drafts, and loans.
  • Work with repossession and/or auction companies regarding repossessed collateral.
  • Handle force placed insurance, bankruptcies, credit reporting issues, and municipality liens on property as needed.
  • Inform management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to loan delinquencies and charge-offs.
Knowledge & Skills Required
  • Experience: 1-3 years similar or related experience
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Interpersonal Skills: Motivating or influencing others is a material part of the job. Position requires a significant level of trustworthiness and diplomacy, and the ability to build sound relationships with companies and/or individuals.
  • Other Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality.
