What can you do to help prevent unauthorized transactions from happening on your account?
Your first line of defense is to keep your account information secret. This includes your account number, PIN, expiration date, and security code located on the back of your card. Beware of any individual unfamiliar to you who asks you to “verify” your account information via phone or email, a tactic often used by scammers. Keep your debit and/or credit card in your possession at all times to avoid theft or the sharing of identifying information that could compromise your card. When using your debit card, ensure that no one is able to see you entering your PIN, and be on the lookout for suspicious devices at points of sale or ATMs that can “skim” and subsequently steal your card’s information. If you enjoy shopping online, it’s a good idea both to check your personal firewall settings and to keep your anti-virus/spyware protection software up to date in order to keep potential thieves at bay.
For additional safety, we suggest making a habit of closely monitoring the activity on your account. Be sure to review your monthly statement, and to take advantage of the various tools we have available that can provide you account information on the go, including OTIS Talk, OTIS ONLINE and Mobile Banking. Log into these services on a regular basis to review your history and any holds that may be on your account to verify that they are actually yours.
Another great option is to sign up for eAlerts within OTIS ONLINE so that you are notified when transactions post to your account. These alerts are customizable and easy to use!
