On April 20, 2018, from 4 PM – 7 PM, there will be a spaghetti dinner, complete with dinner rolls, garlic bread, and desserts, held at the Farmington Recreation Center to raise money for the Franklin County Special Olympics “Rene Fontaine Life Enhancement Scholarship.” Cost of a plate is $5, with any other additional donations being welcome.
Fontaine was an individual with intellectual disabilities who was a 1993 graduate of Mt. Blue High School, known for being a fixture of the football team and a fan of his high school’s sports teams in general. He was a beloved by the Mt. Blue faculty, and also as a member of the greater Franklin County community.
The recipient of the “Rene Fontaine Life Enhancement Scholarship” will be a student with intellectual disabilities from RSU 9. Funds may be used for any purpose which enhances independence and bridges any financial gaps that would enable the individual to transition into adulthood, such as furthering education, obtaining driver’s education/driver’s permit/driver’s license, purchasing a means of transportation, purchasing appropriate clothes for job interviews and employment, securing an independent living space and related items such as furniture, or purchasing any adaptive equipment not covered by health insurance.
